Rhino Shield: The Impact Resistant Screen Protector

Rhino Shield was successfully funded on Kickstarter back in March, and I imagine it was thanks in no small part to the fascinating drop test video that accompanied the fundraising campaign. In the video, the creators bash on Rhino Shield-equipped iPhones (one of several smartphones and tablets the screen protector supports) with dangerous objects such as a knife, a hammer, a cup full of nails and a 255 gram steel ball. Rhino Shield handily withstood every test.

The guys from Evolutive Labs mailed us a testing kit, so we can try it out and see how the Rhino Shield is strong. Included in the kit: 2 pieces of Gorilla Glass 2, 2 Rhino Shield screen protectors, a block of granite, a ball of steel and a 6 inches tower ( where we can drop the steel ball from ).

Test number 1: We've dropped the steel ball onto the unprotected piece of the glass, which broke the glass instantly. ( Thank God it wasn't a real iPhone )

Test number 2: The Rhino Shield screen protector was applied to the 2nd piece of glass and when the steel ball fell from the top of the tower, the glass did not break. In fact, it didn't show any scratch...Impressive

I have been using my iPhone 5 with the Rhino Shield for about a week now, and the best compliment I can give the accessory is that I had nearly forgotten it was covering my screen. After installing the Rhino Shield and replacing my case, I haven’t once had any trouble using the touchscreen or fighting off annoying bubbles.

If you do decide to purchase the Rhino Shield screen protector you will be happy to know that it has at least 5 times the impact energy of Gorilla Glass 2 on its own thanks to the unique polymer technology.

Apple iPhone’s cost a lot of money and even though the screens are strong to take on a light drop or keys stroking next to the screen in your pocket or bag, they are still breakable. The Rhino Shield promises to give that extra protection, we would try anything out to protect something so valuable.

Price is starting at: $24.99
