LOCKITRON: THE IPHONE CONTROLLED HOME LOCK

A Modern Security Solution That Equals Convenience
Let me just start by saying this: I am extremely OCD when it comes to home security.  I double and triple check the locks on doors to make sure that they are in fact locked.  So when I say that this piece of guy gadget tech appeals to me, it really does.
Lockitron is currently meeting funding to get the project off the ground.  They don’t really need your donations at this point though because they are currently at $1.9 million dollars in funding (they were only wanting a measly $150,000).  They have already shipped the first batch and will be sending out a second batch in May 2013.
What does it do?  The lock conveniently fits over your current deadbolt that you have and will then sync with your iphone.  What does that give you the power to do?  Well, you can lock your door from anywhere in the world.  Forgot to give your parents a key and need them to get into your house and take the trash out (fat chance, I know)?  Email them a “key” and they will have one time access to your house.
It is a huge surprise that this wasn’t done before (all the car companies dropped the ball on not applying the technology they already had to home locks).  Or maybe it had but just hadn’t garnered the attention of online tech guys (and girls) everywhere.

Lockitron also managed to turn their nose at Kickstarter when they were rejected for inclusion on the website (Kickstarter is too busy funding catchy documentaries to mess around with tech stuff I guess).  Sourcehttp://www.crowdsourcing.org/article/forget-kickstarter-start-up-raises-15-million-on-its-own/20091
