The “Smart” Dice – Dice+

We have noticed something at Gadgets 4 Guys which is a lack of new and fun games. We were all in college and remember trying to invent different games like over-sized beer pong games made from trash cans and kick balls. We were the MacGyver’s of the campus and able to create an addictive game any Friday night with a roll of toilet paper, floss, and a bouncy ball. The glory days are over and men spend their weekends toiling in the yard when they should be inventing the next awesome game that every household should own.

Dice+ is the game to answer our needs and have actually incorporated tablets with the electronic dice which is amazing. Dice+ is a physical device that responds to physical touch and randomly “rolls” the device. Big deal, right? It get’s better because Dice+ actually has bluetooth built into it which means it can sync with smart devices. The makers have made Dice+ open to developers which allows them to create different games that actually work with the smart device and Dice+. There are already a variety of games available that range from logic and strategy to actual board games that work with Dice+. G4G thinks that this has the potential to be in every home for children but also believe that the silly electronic gambling games present at any casino bar could be replaced with Dice+. The open source capabilities of having people design their own games for this will allow limitless options for both children and grown ups. We have seen the success of the Nintendo Wii incorporating digital and physical into one experience which is why we believe this game has a lot of potential. Can Stamp – Claim Your Drink

How do men claim something has become their property in order to prevent another man from taking his property? He may put a ring on it (we are not calling women property so please don’t get a tizzy, it’s just a joke). If it is food, a man might quickly lick every item on his plate to stop his buddy from taking it straight from his plate. If it’s a pick up basketball game you’re claiming, you will likely hear “we got next”. If you find out that your buddy managed to buy the exact same shirt you did, there will likely be a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Winner will get to claim the shirt as his and the loser has to go back to Dillard’s and pick out a different Tommy Bahama shirt. If you’re a cowboy and handle a lot of cattle, you might decide to brand the cattle with a hot iron. It is/was an old school way to tell which cattle were your own and if those annoying McCoys had taken one of your cows.
Men run into the problem of deciding how to pick their own beer. As of right now, they have a few different options:

1. You select an absolute terrible beer that nobody else would drink.
2. You come up with unique ways to position the tab of your beer so you can tell which one is yours. Eight beers in though and you have forgotten your masterful code.

Nordic Grip Galoshes : Protect Your Shoes Anytime

With the harshest of the winter weather; rain, ice, snow, road salt and bone chilling cold we have right now, it’s still not too late to think of winter weather shoe care. Generally speaking, men’s dress shoes (and one could argue women’s as well) are not well suited to handle these elements. Road salt is the greatest evil (it dries out and can leave white salt stains on leather) followed by water runoff from buildings, melting snow and roadways. Although many men’s shoes are of a rubber sole this does not make the shoes immune from damage from the winter elements. Leather soles, although they make for a better shoe, are even more susceptible to damage. Quite simply, this is because leather absorbs. The leather in the uppers (basically the shoe minus the sole, or the part of the shoe above the sole) absorbs moisture, like rain. The best way to avoid this is prevention.

But as of recently it seems that times are changing and galoshes or other forms of rain protection footwear are becoming increasingly more popular and trendy. So trendy that they can easily cost you up to $100, which seems ridiculous to me. There is a brand called ‘Nordic Grip’ by Unikia, that has a model of galoshes that run about $55 and come in Cyan & Black. They seem to encompass the shoe better leaving less space between the galosh and the shoe, in awkward places.

1 Voice Beanie With Built-In Bluetooth Speakers

Do you know why people in the midwest are tough? It isn’t because we’re hard working and gritty people. The answer to the question is simply: we deal with crappy weather 4-5 months out of every year which gives us that extra hardness. There are people on the west coast and down south that put on a sweater when it’s 45 degrees out. We consider that shorts and flip flop weather in Kansas. The downside of dealing with snow and other crummy weather are the things that you have to do when it comes in. One of the most painful things you have to do if there is over an inch of snow that falls is shovel the drive way. You basically sit in perfect silence as snow falls all around you and covers up all of the work you’re doing. It is boring, it hurts your back, and it never ends throughout the winter.
Gadgets 4 Guys stumbled across a great KickStarter campaign for a product that should solve a lot of these problems. It’s called the 1 Voice Beanie and it is a great idea (one of those painfully obvious “why didn’t I think of that” products). The beanie itself looks like a pretty standard winter cap but upon further inspection you will find that there is actually built in head phones that will sync with your smart phone via Bluetooth. What does that mean? You can listen to music the entire time you’re outside but don’t have to try and snake your iPhone wires through your winter coat. You won’t have to leave your ears exposed to the elements and still get to listen to that banging new Justin Bieber mix you put together. The 1 Voice Beanie is a simple product that we hope is as comfortable as it looks and the speakers work awesome. Gadgets 4 Guys is hoping to snag one of these to review and to also use this winter and avoid freezing our ears off when we’re trying to listen to Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.

Pebble Steel Smartwatch

We don’t know if you have heard but for those of you living under a rock, CES 2014 is officially underway. CES is a conference that brings all of the innovative and leading technology companies (and start up’s) together and let’s them make some of the biggest announcements around. These announcements can range from new tech gadgets to a completely new direction in technology. Gadgets 4 Guys was unable to make it this year but is covering everything virtually and bringing the best announcements to our readers.
The first big announcement we thought was the most appealing to the gadget heads out there which was from a favorite company of ours called Pebble. You might remember Pebble as the company that destroyed their KickStarter goal and really set off the smartwatch craze. Their watch manages to work with iOS and Android which has made it a favorite of both phone users and the cool new apps that are coming out are very appealing. Pebble announced at CES that they will be bringing us Pebble Steel which is a full metal version of the Pebble. The current Pebble watch has bands made of rubber and the watch face made of plastic which turned some people off (not us though, every person at G4G has a Pebble watch) so Pebble created Steel. The glass is the famous Gorilla Glass we have all become familiar with from Apple and comes with optional leather straps too. This allows for a greater level of flexibility and means that the Pebble watch can go with any outfit. Pebble Steel is also waterproof which allows you to comfortably take a shower and not worry about completely ruining your watch. It does come at a higher price tag but as firsthand users of the original Pebble, you should definitely try out Pebble.
Pebble also announced that they will be releasing their own app store with a lot of different apps being created for the Pebble. The Yelp app will allow you to shake your wrist and have different restaurant ideas presented to you (which should help with all of the indecisive wives out there). ESPN will also have an app allowing you to see scores on your wrist and even Mercedes Benz will have an app. Pebble is awesome and are aligning themselves with the right people.

G3 Heated Gloveliners

It is officially cold outside. We didn’t need the snow on the ground to tell us that but when Santa brought his overweight self down the chimney, we knew that Winter had arrived. What does that mean for the common every day man? You won’t be able to those sweet cut off jean shorts and sandals with black socks. Women will be confined to wearing sweaters every day of the week and having an excuse to always wear their “warm and comfy pants” around the house 24/7. Both of those options offer zero visual appeal for men. It is also a sign that football is officially coming to an end and once college basketball ends in March, we enter the dry spell of real sports (sorry baseball fans). Then there is the bitter cold that stings your face whenever you walk outside. If you have to stay outside for long periods of time (cough shoveling snow cough) then you slowly begin to lose feeling in your hands and every other body part.

You will need to sponge wash them and avoid any kind of tumble wash as it could break the gloves. You will never have to lose a pinky again while shoveling the driveway (it is that serious) if you grab a pair of these gloveliners.

The nightstand is sacred to every man out there. We don’t carry purses (well most of us don’t) which means our pockets pick up junk through out an entire day. Where does all of that junk end up? The nightstand. The struggle that every man runs into is keeping a healthy amount of junk on the nightstand but not to the point you have clutter everywhere. We have now entered a new era in clutter on the nightstand though with wires. Here are just some of the things that require chargers that are taking up sacred nightstand real estate: smartwatches, smart phones, Kindle, iPod, tablet, fitness tracker, camera, and several more. Now we know that you don’t have 20 different things charging at once but you probably have 3-4 at any given time. The most annoying thing about the charging wires is that if you accidentally let go of a wire and it falls behind the nightstand actually shows how out of shape you are. As you grunt and lean over to try and grab the wire (realizing just how old you are) you begin to think that there has to be an easier way. There are some DIYer’s out there that have cut up credit cards to handle this but who wants a reminder of their credit card debt every night before bed? You want something simple that holds the wires up on the nightstand but doesn’t create an eyesore. It will also need to eliminate the need to keep the wires pulled completely across the top of the nightstand.

If you need to, you can actually stack wires upon the others and have several different charge cords being managed. TapTap – A Touching Wristband

How many people have you run into that have been in a long distance relationship that actually worked? We’re expecting that there area lot of crickets out there because there are so many hurdles that have to be cleared for a long distance relationship to work. We have things like Skype and Facetime that can help make that long distance feel a lot less but it usually requires a set aside time for both parties to work. Can we be honest (which is code for “We’re about to say something rude”)? Long distance relationships are stupid. They rarely work and are incredibly inconvenient.

CONTROL + ALT + DELETE CUP SET

Take Dork to Modern Design

So, my first reaction to this is I love it.  Remember though, I’m a tech geek and the appeal of integrating something like CTRL+ALT+Delete into a set of cups is a great idea to me.  Then the designer in me says, “Wow, this could look really frigging corny/stupid/dorky/etc”.

I tried my best to find the maker of these but could only seem to find online retailers selling it (guess the makers need to learn some SEO).  I did, however, link to the Amazon site where you can conveniently purchase these.

Remember when you get these cup sets that you should have some trendy loft or a really modern house.  If I saw my dad with these cups chilling on his old ass coffee table right by all of the family photos, the CTRL+ALT+Delete cup set has moved from catching art to corny gimmick.

CELLUON MAGIC CUBE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD

James Bond? Nope, Just An Infrared Keyboard

Remember when the iPhone 5 came out and everybody was flipping out because supposedly we were going to see this amazing virtual keyboard that displayed out on a table?  And then once the collective sigh of all the Apple fan boys finished exhaling, people wondered if this piece of tech was even real.  Then voila, we stumble across the Celluon Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard.

I’ve got a buyer beware on this product because I have definitely never tried it.  Yet the coolness of the picture alone was Gadget 4 Guys material.  It does claim to be really easy to setup via the Bluetooth capability and a rechargeable ion battery will allow for up to two hours of typing fun.

Is this thing some huge solution to a massive problem?  Maybe not.  Is it friggin cool and would it turn some heads if you pulled this out in the middle of an office meeting?  Hell yeah.  I say try it, even if it only works that one time, just to watch the CEO’s jaw drop.
